Tour de France 2009 (up through Stage 4)
I’ve been watching the Tour de France on Versus. I couldn’t figure out why this experience feels so familiar or why I know so many of the riders and their teams.
Then I remembered…
It was this time last year that I left my full-time job. After my final day, I imposed a one-month moratorium on doing anything productive.
Apparently, what I did instead was prepare for The X-Files movie and watch the Tour de France.
I must say—I’m a fan now. Yes, they are probably all shot up on steroids and boo! on that. Thanks to this, I can’t take cycling as a sport too seriously.
But I do like the chess games and the climbing of insanely steep mountains only to have to hurl back down them again.
Yesterday’s Stage 4 team time trials was riveting. Every team has all their riders in a line, trying to draft and create a quick streamline. But this means that should someone fall or crash (and oh, they did fall and crash), he usually took some of his teammates out too.
And Lance Armstrong’s team rides him to a perfect tie for the lead.
I guess this means I’m watching Stage 5.
