TV: The Big Bang Theory and Dollhouse Updates
Status: One disc in for Season 1 of The Big Bang Theory
It’s not as reliably laugh out loud as How I Met Your Mother, but there were several episodes at the start that gave me really enjoyable belly laughs. Even the episodes during which I was not laughing had me amused. I really like Jim Parsons as uber-nerd Sheldon.
Sheldon reminds me of Dr. Temperance Brennan on FOX’s Bones. If you’re smart, why hide it? Just because most of the world acts irrationally, that doesn’t mean that you have to. When the world thinks you’re weird and doesn’t understand you, it doesn’t automatically mean that you need to change yourself.
I also like that the show has a lot of super-educated and cult-geeky moments, but it doesn’t slow down to explain it to the audience. If you don’t know the reference they are making, you won’t get the joke. I’m enjoying that challenge.
Status: Four episodes into the first season live run of Dollhouse
I wasn’t that happy with the Pilot for this show, and I wasn’t that impressed with the improved second outing.
The third and fourth episodes, however, finally have me on board. Is it can’t-miss TV? No, not yet.
But I’m now curious to find out where this is all going.
The little twist in the third episode with the Russian who is not a Russian caught me by surprise. I’m also interested in how the dolls are going to come to remember each other.
I guessing the fourth episode was written by Joss Whedon. Wait, let me look this up…
D’oh! It isn’t.
I thought it was he, because the dialogue crackled a little more, and there was a bit more humor. I want both those elements inserted more into the mystery. I don’t think this show has found its tone yet.
