Reality Show Status Update: The Amazing Race and Top Chef

The Amazing Race

Seriously, how are Dan and Andrew still around? How are they in the top 3? I’ve watched every season of this show and loved it for the majority of that time. I’ve never seen incompetent racing like this go for the entire run of the race and remain unpunished. Have they ever had a good leg?

By the way, if you ever go on the race, as a long time viewer, I can tell you:

  1. Always, always read the entire clue. If you get confused as to what to do, read the clue again.
  2. Do not lose the Amazing Purse. Surgically attach it to your body if possible.
  3. Do not let your guard down and say something bad about the local culture or people. No matter how tired or frustrated you get.
  4. Go back and read through every single one of Miss Alli’s recaps at Television Without Pity. She is right on about almost everything. Her analysis of the race structure and strategies will be so helpful to you.

Top Chef has overtaken Project Runway as my favorite Bravo reality competition show. This last Project Runway was a bit boring in terms of talent. I don’t need outrageous personalities, but I would like to see innovative and exciting talent. Project Runway’s challenges have not been able to keep my interest as much either.

Despite the product placement, Top Chef’s challenges are still interesting for the most part. I think most of the guest judges and regular judges are pretty trustworthy too. This show does make it mostly about the food, which I like. I understand that in the world of fashion, you are buying a brand and a person as much as you are a piece of clothing.

But when I go into a restaurant, I don’t really care if the head chef is a great guy or is sometimes a jerk. I don’t have this information. I want my dinner to be delicious though.

Of course it was great to have a nice person and a Chicagoan, Stephanie, win last year. I’m sure that helped me like the show a bit more.
