Halloween Has Become Too Scary For Me

I’ve never liked ghost stories. I will not watch horror movies or visit a haunted house. But once upon a time, Halloween was still fun. Who doesn’t love chocolate and a bit of fantasy right?

But now, it’s getting to the point where I don’t even want to walk my dog in the dark.

In the continuing trend of decorating the heck out of everything for as long as possible, all things orange start going up on October 1. And man has the decor changed from when I was a kid. There are still pumpkins and door-hang skeletons, but it is just as likely that I will walk by a realistic graveyard, a vulture in a tree, or a motion-activated porch ghoul.

There are even those with fog machines.

When I’m taking the dog out on his nightly walk, I do not want unidentifiable lumps in yards. I don’t want mysteriously moving things yelling at me in the dark. And I definitely do not want anything jumping out at me.

How do kids cope with all of this when it has become a bit too freaky for me?

sigh. Where’s the Christian right when you need them?<-joke
