Recommended Blog Articles for the Week of November 24

Here are my favorite reads from the past week:

  • The Shark Investor with How YOUR Saving Advice Caused the Financial Crisis. People always talk about how capitalism makes for a selfish society. An issue that isn’t talked about a lot is that people who save and people who are frugal are extremely selfish—especially in the context of our existing world, one that is built upon mass delusions. Thank goodness capitalism also makes for an independent society because I feel just fine continuing my selfish saving ways. The country needs to recover from its make-believe standards that obscene debt is good for business and government. I’ll be here in my reality.
  • Mary Chapin Carpenter’s Washington TImes column: A Campaign, A Commercial. Mary Chapin Carpenter has never been out of my top 3 favorite musicians since I first found her in the early ’90s. I know she is an incredible prose writer as well, and I’m looking forward to reading more from her on a regular basis.

Holiday Gift Ideas for Adult Fans of Battlestar Galactica

On January 16, 2009, Battlestar Galactica returns for its final season. If you have a big fan of this great series in your life, he/she is already rejoicing and mourning this last run.

You can help make this precious time even more special by considering the following presents:

1. Battlestar Galactica - Season 4.0 on DVD. It doesn’t get released until January 6, but every dedicated fan would love to open that envelope with the pre-order card in it.

Toaster Cylon Battlestar Galactica t-shirt2. Why be obvious when you can be cool? This Toaster t-shirt from Glarkware is a reference that those in the know fully understand. For the rest of the population, “toaster” is a derogatory and insulting slur for Cylon, the mechanical race that is both enemy and friend to the humans.

Note: Glarkware is having a major sale right now. You can get this shirt for only $5.00!

Welcome to Caprica City t-shirt Battlestar Galactica3. Or how about the Greetings from Caprica City shirt from ThinkGeek.com? Caprica City used to be the capital of the human empire. Throughout the series and miniseries, the viewers have seen it during its height, destruction, occupation, and attempted revival. Retails for $16.99.

Use code ZOMG to get $5.00 off orders of $25.00.

I must admit that I wouldn’t mind getting any of these this year. If you know of something that I have missed, please share!

Recommended Blog Articles for the Week of November 17

Here are my favorite reads from the past week:

  • Four Pillars with Does Passive Income Really Exist? Income from blogging is certainly not passive. The article also makes a good point to not consider royalties passive income either.
  • E! says that an Arrested Development movie deal is inked. I have a feeling that I may just wait to watch this on DVD for all the pausing that is going to be required.
  • One Frugal Girl with Why I Save. Some of the details differ but the main ideas are similar to mine. Money is rarely about money. For me, it’s about independence, security, freedom, and life enrichment. Why anyone would want to throw away all those things for a spur-of-the-moment toy is really beyond me sometimes.
