Chris Carter is Still Full of It
So the new X-Files movie is coming in July. And I’m going to watch it. I’ve seen some of the trailers and publicity stills, but for the most part, I’m keeping spoiler-free.
Now Chris Cater announces that there are eight episodes that are essential viewing because they are somehow tied into the movie. The list includes: the Pilot, Beyond the Sea, The Host, Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose, Memento Mori, Post Modern Prometheus, Bad Blood, and Milagro.
A quick look at this list says that it’s awfully Scullycentric. There are good partner ones, such as the Pilot and Bad Blood, but there’s a lot of Scully going on.
This worries me. Chris Carter has shown time and time again that he can’t really think about Scully in the first position. In Fight the Future, Scully is “that with which he [Mulder] can’t live without.” She gets stung by a bee and is out of commission for much of the last third of the movie. Carter and Spotnitz are comfortable thinking about The X-Files in terms of Mulder’s quest. Other writers had to step in to balance out the partnership.
What do they have up their sleeves? And why do I think that it’s still going to be a slight to Scully?
