TV: (Doctor Who) The Waters of Mars
Posted on January 4th, 2010 by Ms. SP
I’m actually writing this in December. Due to an unexpected trip out of town, I didn’t to see The Waters of Mars and The End of Time: Part One live but rather back to back through Comcast’s On Demand service.
By now, we all know what happens at the end of The End of Time two-parter, but at the moment, The Waters of Mars is the one I can’t get out of my mind.
- Water zombies are scary. There’s no way words can adequately convey how terrifying they were. The scene with the trapped Steffi?…horrifying. And so, so sad.
- Water and Time. Nice parallels Russell T Davis and Phil Ford. Nicely done indeed.
- Lindsay Duncan is one heck of a fine actress. I spent all episode trying to place that face. IMBD tells me that I know her from Rome. Ah, yes. She was pretty darn good in that too.
- Gods/godhood is one of my favorite themes in sci-fi fare. And with Doctor Who, I really get all-I-care-to-handle on that metaphoric front. It’s always a bone-chilling moment when those with power actually realize that they have power, but somehow I never expected the Doctor to get there. Where does one go after such a realization?
- Bravo to David Tennant.
If you watched this and know that sci-fi is not just about gizmos and costumes, I would highly recommend reading Jacob over at TWoP.
