TV: (Doctor Who) The Waters of Mars

Doctor Who The Waters of Mars David Tennent Lindsay DuncanI’m actually writing this in December. Due to an unexpected trip out of town, I didn’t to see The Waters of Mars and The End of Time: Part One live but rather back to back through Comcast’s On Demand service.

By now, we all know what happens at the end of The End of Time two-parter, but at the moment, The Waters of Mars is the one I can’t get out of my mind.

  1. Water zombies are scary. There’s no way words can adequately convey how terrifying they were. The scene with the trapped Steffi?…horrifying. And so, so sad.
  2. Water and Time. Nice parallels Russell T Davis and Phil Ford. Nicely done indeed.
  3. Lindsay Duncan is one heck of a fine actress. I spent all episode trying to place that face. IMBD tells me that I know her from Rome. Ah, yes. She was pretty darn good in that too.
  4. Gods/godhood is one of my favorite themes in sci-fi fare. And with Doctor Who, I really get all-I-care-to-handle on that metaphoric front. It’s always a bone-chilling moment when those with power actually realize that they have power, but somehow I never expected the Doctor to get there. Where does one go after such a realization?
  5. Bravo to David Tennant.

If you watched this and know that sci-fi is not just about gizmos and costumes, I would highly recommend reading Jacob over at TWoP.
