Review: Dr. Firas Katabi and Armitage Oral Surgery (2 of 2)

(continued from part 1)

I had the upper right wisdom tooth extracted with local anesthesia. There was an assistant, Michelle, who helped prep me, and she was very comforting. While the anesthesia was working, she told me what I would expect after the procedure and what I should do to take care of myself. It was nice that they didn’t just leave me alone to think about and get more nervous for the procedure.

Dr. Katabi came back, numbed me some more, and then started working. I imagine the technical stuff is going to be similar for most oral surgeons. Instead, I’ll comment on how diligent Michelle was with the suction hose. I didn’t taste any blood at all.

This being my first tooth pull, I didn’t know what to expect. It was totally fine under local though. There was no pain except for how hard he had to pry my cheek to the side just to reach the tooth. Everything was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

I went back for a complimentary follow-up at two weeks. I guess everything is fine now.

The only negative things I would say about Dr. Katabi’s practice are:

  1. Without insurance, they are more expensive than other practices.
  2. They tend to paint a very positive post-op picture. We all know that some people have a harder recovery than others.
  3. It took several weeks for them to send out my reimbursement check. My insurance paid for more than expected. Yay!

Even with these points, I would have no hesitations about going back to him for future procedures.
