Audiobook: The Art of War by Sun Tzu (Ralph D Sawyer Trans.)
People have studied The Art of War for thousands of years. That’s probably what saves the experience.
Anyone reading straight through is probably going to be bored. Sun Tzu’s points appear to be simple and obvious.
It, however, has been said that the greatest truths are the simplest ones. Like in the best manuals for anything, his tenants are easy to learn and hard to master.
I don’t remember the majority of his points now that the book is over. But I know that should I go through them one by one, I could probably provide an historical example for each.
Still, it is not a work for the general reader. It seems too obvious to be insightful, and I hope that no one has to have a lifetime of practical application to learn this Art anymore.
But I bet for someone who is really motivated to learn, this work will probably provide insights into all types of situations and environments. Just look at these spin-offs:
- The Art of War for Executives: Ancient Knowledge for Today’s Business Professional
- Sun Tzu’s Art of War for Traders and Investors
- Sun Tzu and the Project Battleground: Creating Project Strategy from ‘The Art of War’
