TV: Torchwood, Children of Earth, Episodes 1 & 2

(Minor spoilers for the aired episodes. Only speculation for the future ones.)

Isn’t it great right now?

I’m rooting for the good guys and wishing against the bad guys. The action is awesome, and the mystery is compelling. I’m pulling for the Torchwood team to the point of auditory cheers and spontaneous hand clapping.

I know I have to enjoy it now because it won’t last.

Torchwood is not Doctor Who. Things get dark with Torchwood.

The bad is coming.

But it’s not here yet. And for right now? … Go team!

I’ll feel sick to my stomach later.

  • Jacob over at TWoP verbalized the idea of get-what-you-want-in-the-worst-possible-way in his Battlestar Galactica recaps. I thought about that with the frozen children scenes. Children not moving is chill-inducingly frightening. You just want them to do something, anything—make a noise! … So they start screaming. And now it’s worse. Please stop screaming. Please stop screaming. Say something! … “We are coming.” … Damn.
  • They totally had me with Dr. Rupesh.
  • How many Captain Jacks are out there now? And are they all naked?
  • I wish Martha Jones was in this.
  • I applauded the increased presence of Rhys in season 2. I’m glad they are continuing on with this. The actor is good, and his character is good.
  • In the Which Torchwood Member Are You? quiz, I turned out to be Toshiko. Duh, I already knew that.
