Evanston Post Office Madness
Something is wrong with the Evanston postal service. I gave up on the Main Street office a long ago. The Davis Street office is better to get through, but as I understand it, they just cannot fix their management problems.
Today, I went to mail something for work. I knew I had to go today, one day before April 15th, because tomorrow is going to be insane. At 4:00 pm, there were about 70 people in line and three windows open (plus the self-serve machine). At 4:15, one of the windows closed.
Does tax time and Christmas sneak up on this place? I’ve lived and worked in Evanston for years. I’ve never had these issues with the post offices of my former residences. It’s just Evanston. It took me 50 minutes to get through the line today.
During college, I worked at Pizza Hut. The policy was: No one gets to ask for Superbowl Sunday off. If the government can mandate that its citizens file their taxes by April 15 (extensions notwithstanding), shouldn’t other government services be obligated to accept those filings?
