TV: How I Met Your Mother

This is yet another show I’m following through Netflix
.
Season 1 started off a little bland and routine, but Seasons 2 and 3 have really found their own footings. I’ve laughed out loud at least once every episode. The Office and 30 Rock
don’t do that for me.
How I Met Your Mother is pop culture referential, has a really quick editing structure, and features quirky yet understandable characters.
I really appreciate the interesting ideas that are developed throughout the series that are actually really clever.
There’s a bit that proposes you salute every time something that sounds like a military officer is said:
- General Knowledge [salute]
- Corporal Punishment [salute]
- Private Matter [salute]
It’s one of those things that is funny, and then annoying, but you keep doing it until it becomes funny again.
Plus, the show brings back the word “awesome.” Awesome is an awesome word. There hasn’t been an all-encompassing word in the history of all-encompassing words that’s been able to match the connotative power of awesome. It is a literal application that is also backed by complex meanings. I’m all for its return.
